To determine if obesity is a risk factor for severity in patients with acne treated at the Hospital Victor Lazarte Echegaray. Material and methods: A retrospective, analytical and case-control study was carried out in which 112 adult patients with acne were included, according to selection criteria which were divided into 2 groups: 56 patients with severe acne and 56 patient’s non-acne severe; applying the odds ratio, and the chi-square statistical test. Results: The frequency of obesity in patients with severe acne was 37%. The frequency of obesity in patients with non-severe acne was 20%. Obesity is a risk factor for severe acne with an odds ratio of 2.45 which was significant (p <0.05). However, hypertriglyceridemia and hypercholesterolemia were not statistically significant in the group of patients with severe acne, because in the chi-square analysis it is found that they are not factors associated with severity in patients with acne (p> 0.05) Conclusion: Obesity is a risk factor for severity in patients with acne treated at the Hospital Victor Lazarte Echegaray.
