To determine the association between knowledge of breast self examination and adequate practice in women from the North East of Peru. Materials and method: An observational, prospective, cross-sectional, analytical study was carried out, applying questionnaires to 161 women treated in the Gynecology-Obstetrics department of the II-2 hospital in Tarapoto during the months of November and December 2022, who complied with the eligibility criteria. Results: 57.8% had a medium level, 23% a low level and 19.3% a high level of knowledge about breast examination. In relation to the practice of breast self examination, 67.1% had an inadequate practice and 32.9% adequate. There is an association between the level of knowledge and the adequate practice of breast self-examination, the high level of knowledge (p<0.001) showed a significant association. The average age was 31.1 ± 11.2 years, 53.4% were from rural areas, 59% had secondary education, 23% primary education, and 18% higher education. 70.8% were married or cohabiting and 29.2% single; Likewise, 74.5% were Catholic and 25.5% Evangelical, 57.1% were housewives, 29.9% had a dependent job and 13% an independent job, and only 11.2% % had a history of breast cancer. Conclusions: There is an association between the level of knowledge of breast self-examination and its adequate practice in women.
