The medical career is one whose goal is health care, however, it has been shown that it belongs to a risk group for stress, and may or may not trigger other bad habits such as smoking. Objective: To determine if stress influences tobacco use in medical students. Method: Analytical cross-sectional study in which the following surveys were applied in virtual form, the survey of perceived stress and the questionnaire of cigarette consumers (C4) to 180 human medicine students of the tenth and eleventh cycle, whose data were transferred to a database and processed for a descriptive and analytical analysis. Results: Of 76 (42.2%) students who have high stress, 26 (14.4%) do not consume tobacco, 2 (1.1%) consume low, 11 (6.1%) students consume moderate and 37 (20.6%) consume high, finding a positive and statistically significant relationship. Conclusion: Stress is an influence for tobacco use in medical students
