With the objective of identifying the epidemiological, obstetric, pathological characteristics and the process of care of maternal deaths avoided in the Hospital Belén de Trujillo, 2017 - 2018, a quantitative, descriptive, retrospective design study was carried out. a sample of 279 records of maternal death prevented, selected through simple random sampling. It was found that the main epidemiological characteristics of maternal deaths avoided were age of 18 to 34 years (43%), marital or married status (41%), complete secondary education degree (30%), homemaker occupation (58%), and origin marginal urban area (40%). The main obstetric characteristics were antecedent obstetric (62%), prenatal care (63%), and primitive pregnancy (37%). The main pathological characteristics of the maternal deaths avoided were third-trimester hemorrhages such as placenta previa (46%), hypertension associated with pregnancy such as preeclampsia / eclampsia (61%) and infections at delivery (65%). The main characteristics of the process of care of maternal deaths avoided were: the main sign or symptom of the referral was bleeding (49%), the health professional who performed the referral was an obstetrician (76%), and the main diagnostic reason for the referral was hemorrhage (57%).
