To determine whether dysglycemia is a risk factor for postoperative complications in patients with acute surgical abdomen. Materials and Methods: An observational, analytical retrospective cohort study was performed, evaluating a total of 184 patients with acute abdomen, distributed in two groups of 92 patients each, attended in the Trauma and General Surgery Service of the Hospital Regional Docente de Trujillo during the period between January 2015 and December 2019. Results: The mean age and proportion of males in the cohort with and without dysglycemia were 58.05 ± 16.40, 39.13% and 54.12 ± 15.76, 45.65% respectively. The proportion of postoperative complications in the cohorts with and without dysglycemia were 75% and 56.52% (p = 0.008); the types of complications were ISO (23.91% and 14.13%, p = 0.091; residual abscess 19.56% vs 11.96%, p = 0.157; wound dehiscence 23.91% and 7.61%, p = 0.002; UTI 30.43% and 4.35%, p = 0.001, re-interventions 25% and 10.87%, p = 0.012). Conclusions: Dysglycemia is associated with postoperative complications, specifically wound dehiscence, UTI and reinterventions, with a tendency to the presence of ISO.
