to determine whether malnutrition, anemia, heart disease and history of prematurity are factors that influence admission to the Intensive Car Unit in pediatric patients with severe pneumonia. Material and methods: An analytical, observational, retrospective, case-contro study was conducted. The study population consisted of those children from month to 14 years of age with severe pneumonia at the Hospital Belén de Trujill between 2010-2017, between 66 cases and 132 controls, obtaining the data o medical records that comply with the relevant inclusion criteria. Results: It was found that 51.5% of the cases were female for both cases an controls; the average age was 2.46 in the cases and 1.91 in the controls. Of th proposed factors, two demonstrated association between the variables o interest, being statistically significant. Statistically significant differences wer obtained in anemia (p <0.001, OR = 2.9, CI: 1.65-5.10) and in the history o prematurity (p <0.001, OR = 5.6, CI: 1.88-16). On the other hand, no associatio was found between malnutrition and heart disease. Conclusion: anemia and a history of prematurity are factors that influence the admission to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in children with severe pneumonia.
