Objective: To establish if the amplitude of the erythrocyte distribution has a value as a predictor of mortality in patients with Pneumonia acquired in the community with high risk according to CURB-65. Method: an cohort transversal analytical study was carried out, in which 78 patients from the Víctor Lazarte Echegaray Hospital were included, with a diagnosis of admission for community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) with high risk according to CURB-65 divided according to whether or not they died due to their disease. In those who at hospital admission the value of the erythrocyte distribution amplitude (ADE). Results: 27 patients died due to NAC, where 59% had ADE>15%, patients with ADE> 15% had an average of 14.79 days of hospital stay, patients with ADE> 15%, 26% admitted to UCI vs 74% did not admitted to UCI, ADE> 15% increased the risk of death by NAC (p <0.001 RR (IC 95%): 5,75 (2,192-15,086)). Conclusion: the amplitude of the erythrocyte distribution has value as a predictor of mortality in patients with pneumonia acquired in the community with high risk according to CURB-65.
