Objective: Determine the effectiveness of using virtual reality as a tool to reduce pain during the administration of local anesthesia in pediatric dentistry. Materials and Methods: This was a cross-sectional experimental study involving 78 patients aged 6 to 9 years who attended the dental center of the Antenor Orrego Private University. A data collection form was used where gender was collected; age; the level of anxiety, through the Venham Drawings Test; the type of behavior, using the Frankl Scale and the level of pain, using the Facial Pain Scale – Revised. The Mann-Whitney U test and the free software statistical program RStudio were used for the results. Results: It was evident that in the virtual reality group the average pain was 1.90 ± 2.00, finding a highly significant difference with the control group (p = 0.007). Likewise, highly significant differences were found in the group of women (p = 0.003), in the group of children without anxiety (p = 0.047) and finally in the group of children with slightly negative behavior (p = 0.021). Conclusion: The use of virtual reality is effective in reducing pain during the administration of local anesthesia in pediatric dentistry
