The medical expenses generated by the treatment, monitoring and diagnosis of cancer are high. In Peru, the Intangible Solidarity Health Fund (FISSAL) is responsible for financing the costs of care for 7 types of cancer (Breast, Cervix, Stomach, Colon, Prostate, Leukemia and Lymphoma). OBJECTIVE: Determine the association between the cost of care for cancer patients according to the type of cancer, according to the data found in the FISSAL database. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Cross-sectional analytical study from the FISSAL database for cancer care nationwide between January 2022 and December 2023. Including 2,673 patient records. The analysis was descriptive for the comparison of total and individual average costs per service, for each type of cancer. The comparison of costs by type of care was carried out using simple and adjusted linear regression, considering the coefficient and the p value <0.005, under a 95% confidence level. RESULTS: The female sex predominated in the studied population and the average age was 57 years. The most frequently found type of cancer in the study was breast cancer. A positive association was evident between the total cost of care and days of hospitalization (p= 0.000). The highest total cost generated when carrying out treatment, follow-up and diagnosis among the 7 types of cancer included in this study was found for colon cancer and leukemia (p= 0.007 and 0.000). With reference to the cost of care in individual services that are carried out during the treatment, follow-up and diagnosis of the 7 types of cancer included in this study, an association was found between stomach cancer and the cost generated by oncological surgery, leukemia and the cost generated by days of hospitalization, breast cancer and cost generated by outpatient surgery.
