The objective of the study was to determine the effectiveness of cocoa fortified with heme iron in the treatment of moderate gestational anemia in pregnant women who attend the prenatal control of the Hospital Rural Nueva Cajamarca during the period between april 2017 to august 2017. By means of a experimental design - pragmatic clinical trial, the study population was pregnant with moderate anemia of the Hospital Rural de Nueva Cajamarca, hemoglobin data were chosen from 60 pregnant women with moderate anemia, 30 pregnant women were treated with hemiatric iron fortified cocoa and the other 30 pregnant women, ferrous sulfate. Valued over three months, comparing initial, monthly and final values. Within a month of treatment, 40% of pregnant women in the first group and 93.3% in the second group had moderate anemia; On the other hand, at the end of the treatment, there were no cases of moderate anemia in the first group, but a prevalence of 23.3% in the second group. There was a significant difference between groups with respect to the hemoglobin level (p = 0.000), being 0.59 g / dl in the first month and 3.78 g / dl in the third month; Therefore, cocoa fortified with heme iron is more effective than ferrous sulfate in the treatment of moderate gestational anemia.
