Objective: To determine the clinical and hematological risk factors associated with mortality in patients diagnosed with dengue fever at the Hospital II-2 Santa Rosa - Piura in 2017. Methods: The present study was an observational, case-control design. Patients with a clinical and laboratory diagnosis of dengue fever, over 18 years of age and with complete clinical records were included; cases were defined as those who died of dengue fever while controls were patients discharged alive with a diagnosis of dengue. A total of 41 case and 123 control patients were selected who met the inclusion criteria. Once the information was collected from each patient, statistical analysis was performed in the Stata v14 program. Multivariate analysis using Poisson's model was performed to calculate the OR and IC95%, to identify the risk factors for mortality due to Dengue. Results: The average age of cases was 48.78 and 47 years for controls and cases, with a higher prevalence of women in both groups. In multivariate analysis, the value of hematocrit was identified as a risk factor for dengue mortality (OR: 1,07; IC95%: 1,03 – 1,13; p=0,017). Conclusions: Patients with dengue mortality should be monitored for the main factors found in the present study such as hematocrit, considering that it is a parameter of plasma extravasation together with thrombocytopenia.
