Objective: To determine the sociodemographic and clinical factors associated with depression in patients with Parkinson's disease treated at the Hospital Jorge Reátegui Delgado – ESSALUD in Piura during the year 2021. Material and methods: An observational, analytical, cross-sectional study was conducted in participants with Parkinson's disease to evaluate sociodemographic and clinical factors associated with depression using the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9). Results: A total of 236 participants were evaluated, of whom 185 met the inclusion criteria of the study, and 41.6% had depression. The mean age of participants with Parkinson's disease and depression was 75 ± (9.4) years. The depression evaluated predominated in patients over 80 years of age, female, whose marital status was different from married or cohabiting. The factors that increased the probability of having depression were female sex (aOR 3.01, 95% CI 1.49 to 6.08, p: 0.002), age over 80 years (aOR 3.01, 95% CI 1.19 to 7.65, p: 0.02), diagnosis time greater than eleven years (aOR 4.18, 95% CI 1.61 to 10.89, p: 0.003) and reporting of 2 to 3 symptoms (aOR 4.97, 95% CI 1.23 to 20.05, p: 0.02). Conclusions: Depression is the most prominent non-motor symptom in Parkinson's disease. Sociodemographic factors such as gender and age over 80 increased the likelihood of depression by up to three times more; as well as clinical factors such as the diagnostic time greater than eleven years the increase in four times more and the report of two to three symptoms the increase in up to five times more.
