To determine the relationship between pre-pregnancy obesity and dysfunctional labor in pregnant women with spontaneous labor, attended at the Regional Teaching Hospital of Trujillo during the period 2015-2018. Material and Method: An analytical, observational, retrospective cohort study was carried out. The study sample consisted of pregnant women attended for spontaneous onset delivery, who met the established inclusion and exclusion criteria, distributed into two groups: 134 pregnant women with pre-pregnancy obesity and 134 pregnant women without pre- pregnancy obesity. The data were obtained from the Perinatal Information System (SIP). The variables were analyzed using the Chi square test, considering the level of significance as p <0.05, the Relative Risk was also calculated with a 95% CI. Results: The frequency of dysfunctional labor in pregnant women with pre pregnancy obesity was 54.5% and in pregnant women without obesity it represented 53%. No significant association was found between pre-pregnancy obesity and dysfunctional labor (RR = 1.06, x2 = 0.060, p> 0.05, 95% CI: 0.65-1.71). Conclusions: Pre-pregnancy obesity is not a risk factor for dysfunctional labor in pregnant women with spontaneous labor
