In order to determine maternal and neonatal factors associated with increased risk of perineal tears, a case-control study was conducted in which two random samples of women's clinical histories were studied: with and without perineal tears, whose delivery was attended to in the maternity hospital II Chocope- EsSalud during the years 2017 and 2018. Each selected file was reviewed by the researcher who extracted all the required information on the variables under study which was recorded in a data collection instrument. For the statistical analysis, the chi square test was used, setting the level of significance at P <0.05. In addition, the multivariate analysis was performed. It was found that primiparity (OR = 2.1 IC95% (1.5-2.9)) is a maternal risk factor associated with a higher risk of perineal tear; while age, maternal size, anemia, duration of labor and use of oxytocin were not. Likewise, weight, height, and head circumference are not neonatal factors associated with a higher risk of perineal tears.
