AIM: To know which are the risk factors already mentioned in the medical literature that are associated with neonatal asphyxia in the Hospital of the Friendship II-2 Saint Rose Piura during the year 2018. Material and methods. Basic, Observational, Descriptive, Retrospective and Transversal Research. The population to study are those born during the year 2018, at the Saint Rose Piura Hospital, which were up to 28 days old and diagnosed with neonatal asphyxia, which constituted the unit of analysis. All those who met the selection criteria were included. Therefore, no calculation of sample size or sampling technique was performed. SPSS V23.0 was used for descriptive statistics. Results. 70 neonates of 100 identified, met selection criteria. From this selected population, 40 (57.14%) were male; 36 (51.46%) were born via cesarean section. All of them are single pregnancies, newborns at term. Maternal infection during pregnancy was present in 60%; maternal anemia, diagnosed in 20%. Circular cord in 37.1% of cases, uterine hypotonia in 17.1%. Premature rupture of membranes in 28.6% of cases and meconium amniotic fluid in 25.7% of cases. Metabolic acidosis was in 50% of the cases. There was an incidence of 8.96 cases of neonatal asphyxia per 1000 live births during the year 2018. Conclusion. In the Hospital of the Friendship II-2 Saint Rose Piura during the year 2018, the main factors associated with neonatal asphyxia were: maternal factors, where the most frequent are maternal infections during pregnancy and anemia. Placental uterine factors such as circular cord followed by uterine hypotonia. Obstetric factors such as premature rupture of the membrane and presence of meconium amniotic fluid. Finally, fetal factors where the male sex was found and blood pH less than 7.
