The purpose of this study was to determine the factors associated with the delay in the diagnosis of breast cancer in patients at Hospital III José Cayetano Heredia Es Salud, Piura, January-December 2019. Material and methods: An observational, analytical, cross-sectional, prospective historical study was carried out. The study population consisted of 200 patients treated in the clinical oncology outpatient clinic of Hospital III José Cayetano Heredia Es Salud, Piura, January-December 2019. The database was prepared and the statistics were subsequently processed using the statistical program SPSS 25.0. The Chi-square test determined the statistical significance of the association between the study variables, considering a confidence index of 95% with a value of p<0.05. Results: 35.5% of the patients had a delay in the diagnosis of breast cancer >3 months at Hospital III José Cayetano Heredia EsSalud, Piura, January - December 2019. The first place of care, the first health personnel who attend to patients and age were factors that were statistically associated (p<0.05). Conclusions: The bivariate analysis showed that the patient being seen for the first time by a staff at the first level of care increases the risk by 5.8 times the delay in the diagnosis of breast cancer (p = 0.017), likewise, the being a health center the first place of care generates a risk of 3.1 times more delay in diagnosis (p=0.008). Age <40 is a protective factor for delayed breast cancer diagnosis.
