To determine if there is a relationship between cognitive doping and academic performance in students of the faculty of Human Medicine of the Universidad Privada Antenor Orrego. Materials and methods: An analytical, cross-sectional study was carried out in 161 students from the second to twelfth cycle of the human medicine career at the Universidad Privada Antenor Orrego in the 2020-20 academic semester, to whom a questionnaire-type data collection instrument was applied, from which information was obtained on cognitive doping and academic performance of each student, comparing the results between both variables. The data were analyzed using Pearson's x2 and T-Student statistical tests. Results: 70.2% of the students of the different cycles indicated positive cognitive doping at some time during the academic year, this was most frequent among the eleventh cycle students (14.9%). A total of 50.9% showed inadequate academic performance, among which students coming from another city showed a higher percentage (31.1%). The substance of greatest consumption was caffeine with 47.2%; during the whole cycle (38.5%), with the purpose of having greater resistance to carry out their activities (78.9%). Most of them indicated that they consume small amounts (61.5%) and do not consider that cognitive doping helps their academic performance. No relationship was found between cognitive doping and students' academic performance (p= o,235). Conclusions: It is evident that the rate of positive cognitive doping in students of human medicine career is high and since in the present study no statistically significant correlation was found between cognitive doping and academic performance, the research should help us and encourage us to continue studying and searching for new variables that affect academic performance in such students.
