Objective: To determine if HIV infection is a factor associated with non- alcoholic fatty liver disease in patients treated at the Belen Hospital in Trujillo. Material and methods: An analytical, observational, cross-sectional study was carried out. The study population consisted of 116 patients, who were simultaneously measured the two variables under study, HIV infection (diagnosis given in the medical history) and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease through the scale. HSI (Hepatic Steatosis Index), then the data of these two variables and the intervening variables were collected in the data collection forms prepared for the present study and then the statistical analysis was carried out using the Chi square test and prevalence ratio establishing p<0.05 as significant. Results: The present study found that human immunodeficiency virus infection is a factor associated with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (PR: 3.3; 95% CI: 1.4 – 5.8; p< 0.05) as well in the multivariate analysis, adjustment by intervening variables, it was found that diabetes mellitus II (PR:5.4; 95% CI: 1.8-9.8; p=0.014), obesity (PR: 5.7; 95% CI: 1.9-9 .6; p=0.019), hypercholesterolemia (PR:4.2;95%CI:1.5-7.5; p=0.023) and HIV infection (PR:3.4;95%CI:1.3 -7 .1;p=0.028) were factors associated with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in adult patients treated at the Belen Hospital in Trujillo. Conclusion: HIV infection is a factor associated with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in patients treated at the Belen Hospital in Trujillo
