Objective: To determine if Arterial Hypertension is a risk factor associated to Alzheimer disease Material and Methods: An investigation was developed taking into account a retrospective design of cases and controls where a representative sample of the population made up of 192 patients was analyzed; these individuals were analyzed in 2 groups according to the presence or absence of Alzheimer's disease; the statistician compatible with the design was the odds ratio and the chi-square test. Results: The frequency of arterial hypertension in group with Alzheimer disease was 23%. The frequency of arterial hypertension in group with Alzheimer disease was 23%. Arterial hypertension is a risk factor for Alzheimer disease with an odds ratio of 2.7 which was significant (p <0.05). In the multivariate analysis, the significance of the risk for the variables hypertension, diabetes, arthrosis and no use of NSAIDS related to Alzheimer disease was verified. Conclusions: Arterial Hypertension is a risk factor associated to Alzheimer disease at Victor Lazarte Echegaray Hospital.
