To determine if alexithymia is associated with alcohol abuse in medical students. Material and methods: An analytical cross-sectional study was carried out, which was made up of 148 medical students, according to the selection criteria, which were divided according to the presence or absence of alcohol abuse, the chisquare and the prevalence ratio statistician. Results: The frequency of male sex and family history were significantly higher in the group of university students with alcohol abuse (p<0.05), the frequency of alexithymia in university students with alcohol abuse was 93%, the frequency of alexithymia in university students without alcohol abuse was 64%, alexithymia is a factor associated with alcohol abuse in university students of the 10th cycle of the Human Medicine career with a prevalence ratio of 7.90 which was significant (p<0.05). Conclusion: alexithymia is associated with alcohol abuse in medical students.
