The present investigation was carried out with the objective of determining the urinary tract infection is a factor associated with preeclampsia in pregnant women treated at the Tomas Lafora Hospital during the years 2015-2016, in a correlational, analytical, cross-sectional study, with a design of cases and controls, through documentary analysis in which a data collection form is applied to 225 clinical histories, 45 with preeclampsia and 180 without preeclampsia, finding as results that the majority of pregnant women were between 20 and 35 years old (72.4%), cohabiting civil status (84.9%), with secondary education degree (80.4%); the frequency of urinary tract infection in pregnant women with preeclampsia was 77.8%, and in pregnant women without preeclampsia it was 23.9%, and when assessing the association, a highly significant effect (p-value <0.001) of the urinary tract infection as a factor associated with preeclampsia was found, with an OR 11.15 (95% CI: 5.1 - 24.4), which indicates that in the pregnant women of the Tomas Lafora Hospital with urinary tract infection are 11 times more likely to develop preeclampsia than those without urinary tract infection.
