Objective: The main objective of this study is to determine if iron deficiency anemia is a factor associated with mental health disorders in patients treated at the Vista Alegre District Hospital. Materials and methods: This study is observational, analytical, cross sectional, where patients undergo a laboratory examination to identify patients with iron deficiency anemia and without iron deficiency anemia, with a total of 145 patients, of which 72 patients had iron deficiency anemia and 73 did not, these patients were approached in the outpatient clinic where a survey was conducted with 3 questionnaires, the first about anxiety, then about depression and finally about insomnia, being carried out in the outpatient clinic of the Vista Alegre District Hospital. Results: This study included a total of 145 patients, of which 72 patients have iron deficiency anemia and 73 do not suffer from this pathology, iron deficiency anemia being a factor associated with anxiety (p 0.01), having a 1.6 times greater probability of having anxiety ( RP 1.60 95% CI 1.08 – 2.38), also a factor associated with depression (p 0.04), having a 2.3 times greater probability of presenting depression (RP 2.31 95% CI 1.01 – 5.29) and a factor associated with insomnia (p 0.03 ), having a 2.1 times greater probability of generating insomnia (RP 2.14 95% CI 1.03 – 4.41). Conclusions: Iron deficiency anemia is a factor associated with mental health disorders, in addition, age has a significant association with anxiety, age, dyslipidemia, HTN, DM and obesity were factors associated with depression, while HTN was an associated factor. to insomnia
