This thesis was developed in the channel of the Chicama river, contemplating a section from the Careaga bridge to the detour to Sintúco, for which the objective was to identify the critical points of the river that allow its overflow, flooding the surrounding areas, after which the proceeded to carry out the topographic survey of the study area where a slope of 0.064% was obtained. For the hydrological study, the flow record provided by the Valle Chicama Users Board dating from 1971 to 2018 was used, with this record it was possible to calculate the design flows adjusting to the Normal, Log Normal 2 Parameters, Log Normal 3 Parameters, Gamma 2 Parameters, Gumbel, Log Pearson Type III, of which the Log Pearson Type III distribution was chosen, obtaining as results 1106.04 m3 / s, 1407.27 m3 / s, 1674.41 m3 / s and 1761.34 m3 / s as design flows, for a return period of 30, 50, 100 and 170 years. Hydraulic modeling was carried out with the help of the Iber 2.4.3 program, with which, through a pre-process and post-process, different simulations were originated to be able to analyze the behavior of the water flow within the Chicama river, managing to determine the critical points of the riverbed at different flows and return periods. With the results obtained in the two-dimensional simulation, it was possible to determine the times of flooding in times of maximum floods, allowing the design of a rocky as a solution proposal with a flow of 1761.34 m3 / s for a return period of 170 years for the Chicama river. with a crown width of 4m, a height of the dam of 3.50m and a rockfall height of 3.50m
