Objective: To determine if hypoalbuminemia is a risk factor for adverse reactions to anti-tuberculosis drugs in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. Material and Methods: An analytical, observational, cohort, retrospective study was carried out. The study population consisted of 116 patients with pulmonary tuberculosis according to established inclusion and exclusion criteria distributed in two groups: with or without hypoalbuminemia, recording the frequency of adverse reactions (liver, skin and gastric) in each study group; Relative risk and chi square test were calculated. Results: No significant differences were observed with respect to the variables age, gender, provenance, diabetes mellitus, renal failure or anemia among patients with or without hypoalbuminemia (p> 0.05). The incidence of adverse reactions to anti-tuberculosis drugs in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis and hypoalbuminemia was 63%. The incidence of adverse reactions to antituberculosis drugs in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis without hypoalbuminemia was 37%. Hypoalbuminemia is a risk factor for adverse reactions to anti-tuberculosis drugs in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis with a relative risk of 4.8, which is significant (p <0.05). Conclusions: Hypoalbuminemia is a risk factor for adverse reactions to antituberculosis drugs in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis.
