OBJECTIVE: To determine the level of Association between Hypertension and obesity in adolescents. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study corresponds to a cross-sectional - correlational type design, where 269 adolescents between 12 and 19 years of age were evaluated who were visited to take certain data such as BMI, abdominal circumference, blood pressure and other sociodemographic data. RESULTS: The prevalence of overweight was 23.8% and 14.1% for obesity. It was also observed that 87.7% turned out to be normotensive, 9.7% presented high blood pressure, of which 1.48% were eutrophic, 3.34% were overweight and 4.83% were obese, in addition 2.6% entered the category of arterial hypertension, of which 0.37% were overweight and 2.23% were obese. In this way, a close relationship is found between the increase in BMI and the increase in blood pressure values. CONCLUSIONS: There is an increase in obesity compared to other studies carried out in previous years, and there is also a strong association between obesity and hypertension in adolescents.
