hipotiroidismo frente a eutiroidismo (87.7% vs 54.8%, p <0.001).
a eutiroideos (42.5% vs 26%, p <0.05).
To determine the association between hypothyroidism and symptoms of depression in patients seen in the outpatient clinic of the “Victor Lazarte Echegaray” Hospital in Trujillo. Material and methods: A cross-sectional analytical study was carried out, which included 146 patients with a thyroid profile, of which 73 had a definitive diagnosis of hypothyroidism and the remaining 73 with normal thyroid function. The patients were screened for depressive symptoms by means of a survey with the PHQ-9 tool, in addition, demographic data such as age, sex, marital status, educational level, comorbidities, as well as clinical data such as TSH levels and time of thyroid disease, were collected. The Chi square test (χ2) was used to determine if there is an association between hypothyroidism and symptoms of depression using the statistical software SPSS version 29. Results: A higher prevalence of women was found among patients with hypothyroidism compared to euthyroidism (87.7% vs 54.8%, p <0.001). The most prevalent chronic diseases among patients with hypothyroidism are arterial hypertension (27.4%), diabetes mellitus (12.3%), hyperlipidemia (9.6%), and rheumatoid arthritis (4.1%). Likewise, a higher prevalence of depressive symptoms was found among patients with hypothyroidism compared to euthyroid patients (42.5% vs 26%, p <0.05). It is important to note that hypothyroidism was associated with depressive symptoms statistically significantly (prevalence ratio [OR], 1.63; confidence interval [CI], 1.02-2.61; p <0.05). Conclusion: There is a statistically significant association between hypothyroidism and depressive symptoms.
