To determine the sociodemographic, obstetric and personal risk factors associated with inadequate prenatal care. Material and Methods: An observational, cross-sectional, analytical study of cases and controls was developed. In which 184 puerperal women hospitalized in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology attended at the Regional Teaching Hospital of Trujillo were included according to selection criteria, which were divided into two groups, one presenting inadequate prenatal control and the other that presented adequate prenatal control since the 16th. from May to July 8, 2022, with the data obtained, the Pearson Chi-Square test was calculated with a significance level of 5% (p-value ≤ 0.05). Subsequently, a multivariate analysis was performed through multiple logistic regression to indicate the greatest strength of association through the odds ratios. Results: Among the sociodemographic factors: Extreme ages (p<0.05), coming from the rural area (p<0.05), and residing more than 3 km from the health center (p<0.05) (OR: 11.96) were risk factors associated with inadequate prenatal care. Among the obstetric factors: multiparity (p<0.05), the short intergenic period (p<0.05) and starting prenatal control after 12 weeks (p<0.05) (OR: 15.06) were risk factors associated with inadequate prenatal care. Among the personal factors, not attending controls for childcare (p<0.05) and housework (p<0.05), unplanned pregnancy (p<0.05) (OR: 8 .84) and the time of affiliation to health insurance during pregnancy (p<0.05) were risk factors associated with inadequate prenatal care. Conclusions: extreme ages, coming from the rural area, residing more than 3 km from the health center, multiparity, short intergenic period, starting prenatal control after 12 weeks, not attending controls due to childcare and household chores, unplanned pregnancy and the time of affiliation to health insurance during pregnancy are risk factors associated with inadequate prenatal care.
