The objective of this investigation was to determine the level of knowledge of the nursing professional about the immediate pre-operative care of the ophthalmological patient, at the Almanzor Aguinaga Asenjo hospital in 2022. It is a quantitative investigation with a descriptive, cross-sectional, prospective design. The population was made up of 23 nurses who work in the emergency center service, to whom a self-administered questionnaire was applied, prepared by the researcher and validated by expert judgment. Data collection was carried out with prior informed consent. The main results showed that of the total of 23 nurses, 39% had a regular level of knowledge and 26.1% obtained a low level of knowledge, about the preoperative care of the ophthalmological patient. In relation to the preoperative assessment, 69.6% had a good level of knowledge, while in relation to knowledge about complementary tests, 47.8% obtained between regular and low level of knowledge. It was concluded that nurses have to regulate a good level of knowledge in the immediate preoperative care of ophthalmological patients; and requires optimizing their knowledge in relation to complementary tests and the use of medications.
