Objective: To identify the risk factors of urinary infections in patients who were operated with transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP). Material and Methods: A case-control study, poblational was carried out. The population studied was 122 patients, who were post operated of TURP during the period July 2016 – July 2018; which were divided into 2 groups according to the presence of urinary infection: 61 cases and 61 controls. The possible risk factors were processed through univariate and multivariate logistic regression studies. Results: In the bivariate analysis it was found that the patients who had bladder catheter before entering the surgery had an OR of 12.21 and it was significant (p <0.05), on the same way, a significant value was found regarding operative time ≥ 60 minutes (p <0.05), with an odds ratio of 5,81. In the multivariate analysis we could corroborate the results in the bivariate analysis. Conclusions: The previous use of bladder catheter and the operative time greater than 60 minutes are risk factors for developing genitourinary tract infections in post-operated TURP patients.
