The demographic and vehicular growth in recent years has been significant; therefore, evaluating the level of use of the road infrastructure is a key factor to determine and mitigate the negative effect of the increase in vehicular traffic that generates discomfort and inconvenience to the population. The objective of this thesis project is to carry out a traffic study of the intersection of Andrés Avelino Cáceres Avenue and reveal the level of service in this road system in order to provide proposals for vehicular and pedestrian improvement at this intersection in the city of Piura. This study was carried out according to the methodology provided by the Highway Capacity Manual and improvement proposals provided by the MTC (Ministry of Transportation and Communications). Different data were determined, such as: types of vehicles, traffic volume, peak hours of greater vehicular intensity, traffic light cycles, capacity, delays and levels of service of the intersection. The results showed that the traffic-light intersection between Andrés Avelino Cáceres Avenue and San Ramón Avenue has a delay of 61.79 seconds at the intersection with a level of service F, where there is also a lack of horizontal and vertical signaling for both vehicles and pedestrians; the presence of rubber spring breakers on the auxiliary roads has caused traffic to be diverted to the main roads, as well as the lack of bus stops for buses, which have no clear place to unload pedestrians. It concludes with proposals based on the analysis of the data obtained and on the simulation with the Synchro 8 program
