To determine if a history of abdominal-pelvic surgery is a risk factor for converting the surgical technique of elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy into open surgery in patients with chronic lithiasic cholecystitis at Hospital Belén de Trujillo. Material and methods: Observational case-control study, where 74 medical records of patients with chronic lithiasic cholecystitis were included. They were divided into 2 groups: 37 patients who presented cholecystectomy conversion and 37 without cholecystectomy conversion. Statistical tests were the Odds Ratio (OR) and logistic regression. Results: The frequency of a history of abdominal-pelvic surgery in patients who required conversion from elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy to open surgery was 48.6%, while in patients who did not require conversion it was 21.6%. Regarding the multivariate analysis, a history of abdominal-pelvic surgery (p=0.049; OR=3.497), age greater than or equal to 50 (p=0.027; OR=3.859), diabetes mellitus (p=0.047; OR=6.144), anemia (p=0.014; OR=5.210) were risk factors for converting the surgical technique from elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy to open surgery. Conclusion: A history of abdominal-pelvic surgery is a risk factor for converting the surgical technique of elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy into open surgery.
