The objective of this research work is to determine the effect of the interest rate differential and exchange rate expectations on the exchange rate in Peru, 2007- 2021. The work was of an applied type, of a quantitative approach, of explanatory scope and of a non-experimental and longitudinal design. A sample corresponding to the quarterly series of the interest rate differential indicators, exchange rate expectations and the exchange rate during the 2007-2021 period was used. Likewise, the econometric method used to test the hypothesis was semi-logarithmic Ordinary Least Squares (OLS). Among the main results, it was found that i) during the study period, the interest rate differential between the United States and Peru was mainly influenced by movements in the monetary policy of the United States; ii) exchange rate expectations have evolved closely with the effective nominal exchange rate, deviating only in periods of economic, political and health uncertainty and iii) in the face of a 1 percentage point increase in the interest rate differential, the interest rate exchange rate increases by 0.22%, while a 1% increase in the expected exchange rate causes the exchange rate to increase by 0.5074%. Finally, the findings of this research allow us to conclude that the interest rate differential between the United States and Peru and the expected exchange rate have a positive and significant effect on the nominal exchange rate.
