The purpose of this research was to determine the relationship between the metacognitive strategies and the academic motivation with the academic performance of the students of the Industrial Engineering School of José Faustino Sánchez Carrión National University of Huacho. This investigation is descriptive correlational, with a population of 1608 students, a sample of 262 students was determined. The information was collected through the application of instruments, such as: the inventory of metacognitive strategies of O'Neil and Abedi and the Núñez Academic Motivation Scale, the academic performance was determined by the average of the accumulated qualifications in the academic semester. In the analysis of the data the SPSS v.21 software was used, obtaining as a result a positive correlation between Metacognitive strategies and academic performance, specifically the dimension of cognition correlates significantly (p <.05), and directly with effect size of the correlation of small magnitude. In relation to academic motivation strategies, the dimensions: intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation; they correlate significantly (p <.05), directly and with effect size of the correlation of small magnitude with academic performance.
