In 2017, around 200 families were at risk of being affected by the overflow of the Simbal river, also known as 'Cargatrapo', according to the residents of the town of Simbal. According to an inspection, carried out by members of the Simbal commune and personnel from the National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci), if the case of the 1998 phenomenon were to recur, the Simbal families and the Santa Catalina Valley could lose it. All, carrying out a topographic study by means of a drone inspection, the existence of areas with risk of flooding adjacent to the Simbal river bed was verified, for this it was necessary to lift approximately 2 kilometers of bed, being 1 km upstream and 1 km downstream including 200 meters from both banks (left and right), giving a total raised area of 1229,950 m2, in the soil mechanics study it was decided to make 2 pits, (exact location see plan in plan), with the intention of taking samples in each stratum found up to a depth of 1.00 meters, once studied in the laboratory we have been able to calculate the granulometric curve by sieving the material; To counteract the effects that would be generated by the overflow of the flow of the Simbal riverbed, the edges of both banks have been confined with protection dams, and this information has been represented numerically with a hydraulic model to verify and evaluate its performance, in this way also It was found that they were high enough to protect the bank, finally the scour around the pillars that are between 1.29 m and 2.01 m were verified, which indicates that it is vulnerable to being dragged by the current after the scour.
