The main objective of the research was to determine the relationship between sexual assertiveness and violence between boyfriends in students of the Faculty of Human Medicine of a private university in Trujillo. The sample was made up of 217 students. The instruments used were the Sexual Assertiveness Scale (EAS) and the Dating Violence Questionnaire (CUVINO). The results in relation to the level of sexual assertiveness in university students show a predominance of the medium level and a mild level of violence. Regarding the relationship between the dimensions of both study variables, it is evident that there is no significant relationship between the initiative dimension and each of the dimensions of violence between boyfriends, there is a very significant inverse relationship between the rejection dimension and the sexual dimension of violence in relationships between boyfriends. Significant mild inverse correlations were also identified between the rejection factor and the instrumental, physical, humiliation and emotional punishment dimensions of violence between boyfriends. In the pregnancy prevention – STD dimension and the sexual dimension, an inverse relationship of moderate degree and highly significant has been identified, an inverse correlation, also very significant but of slight degree, between this dimension and the instrumental dimension. Therefore, it is concluded that there is an inverse correlation, very significant (p < .01) and of a slight degree, between sexual assertiveness and violence between boyfriends in students of the Faculty of Human Medicine of a Private University of Trujillo. This indicates that as sexual assertiveness increases, the incidence of violence between boyfriends tends to decrease and vice versa.
