The purpose of this research was to determine the level of knowledge about mechanical ventilation and its relationship with the work performance of nurses in the neonatal intensive care unit - Ancash, 2022. For this, we designed a quantitative study with a descriptive-correlative scope, cross-sectional. Interview and observation were applied with two previously validated instruments; the Knowledge Test on mechanical ventilation and the observation sheet of the work performance of nurses in the neonatal intensive care unit of the hospitals of the Ancash region: Hospital “La Caleta“ and Hospital “Víctor Ramos Guardia“. Data was sorted and statistically analyzed where found; 68.4% of nurses with a medium level of knowledge about mechanical ventilation in neonates, 31.6% high level, and none with a low level. 21.1% of nurses had a regular level of job performance, 78.9% a high level, and none had a low level. 52.6% of nurses presented a medium level of knowledge about mechanical ventilation in neonates and an efficient level of work performance in the neonatal intensive care unit, and 26.3% a high level of knowledge about mechanical ventilation in neonates and an efficient level of work performance. It was concluded that the level of knowledge of nurses about mechanical ventilation in neonates is not significantly related to their job performance in neonatal intensive care units (p > 0.05).
