“ Objective: To determine if inadequate prenatal control is a risk factor associated with maternal anemia in Hospital Belen de Trujillo. Material and Methods: An case and control study was carried out. The study population consisted of 128 pregnant to term women aged 20 to 35 years, and according to the selection criteria was divided into 2 groups, the first of 32 cases (pregnant women with anemia) and the second of 96 controls (pregnant women without anemia) in Hospital Belen de Trujillo. The Odds Ratio and the Chi square test were calculated. Results: No significant differences were found for the variables of maternal age, gestational age or degree of parity among pregnant women with or without gestational anemia. The frequency of inadequate prenatal control in pregnant women with anemia was 16%. The frequency of inadequate prenatal control in pregnant women without anemia was 24%. Inadequate prenatal control is a risk factor for anemia in pregnant women (OR=4.1; IC 95%: [1.78; 7.32;] p<0.05). Conclusions: Inadequate prenatal control is a risk factor associated with maternal anemia, however, additional studies should be performed.
