Objective: To determine if insomnia is a factor associated with suicidality in adolescents of the Antenor Orrego Private University. Material and Methods: An analytical, observational, retrospective, sectional, and transversal study was carried out. The study population consisted of 156 adult patients according to established inclusion and exclusion criteria divided into two groups: with or without suicidality, the odds ratio and chi square test were calculated. Results: The frequency of anxiety, family cohabitation and depression were significantly higher in the group of patients with suicidality compared to the group of patients without suicidality. The frequency of insomnia in adolescents with suicidality was 17/26 = 65%. The frequency of insomnia in adolescents without suicidality was 24/130 = 16%. Insomnia is a factor associated with suicidality in adolescents with an odds ratio of 8.43, which was significant (p <0.05). In the multivariate analysis, insomnia, anxiety, family coexistence and depression are recognized as factors associated with suicidality. Conclusions: Insomnia is a factor associated with suicidality in adolescents of the Antenor Orrego Private University.
