Objective: To determine if ligament hypermobility is a risk factor for poor posture in schoolchildren attended at Víctor Lazarte Echegaray Hospital in the period August – October 2016. Material and Methods: A retrospective cross – sectional study of cases and controls was performed in 100 children aged 6 to 12 years. Chi Square was used because this hypothesis test allowed to compare the possible difference between the frequencies observed in the distribution of a variable with respect to the expected ones, due to a certain hypothesis as the one raised in our investigation. Statistical significance was considered when p value <0.05 and risk factor for Odds Ratio> 1. Results: Schoolchildren who had ligament hyperlaxity presented 2.67 times greater risk of poor posture than those who did not (OR: 2.67, X2: 4.76, p-value: 0.02, 95% CI: 1.09 to 6, 52). The mean age in years was similar for both study groups (cases: 7.23 ± 4.16, controls: 7.55 ± 3.54), female predominating (MP: 56%, without MP: 52%). The frequency of ligamentous hyperlaxity in school students with poor posture was 40% and, in those without poor posture, 20%.
