The present investigation, of analytical, observational and transversal type. Its main objective was to analyze the association that exists between family dysfunction and depression in medical students. The sample consisted of 187 students, who were applied the Goldberg Depression Scale (EADG) and the APGAR for family perception, to students who met the inclusion criteria. The results show an association between the presence of depression and family dysfunction statistically significant (p <0.05) that allow to affirm that those students with family dysfunction have a 1.74 times greater probability of depression with respect to those who did not present family dysfunction (RP = 1.74, 95% CI: 1.63 - 3.64). Likewise, there is a prevalence of 61% in the group with depression and a prevalence of 35% in the group without depression in relation to family dysfunction; At the same time there is a relationship between depression and academic performance, in relation to the prevalence of students with depression by sex, the results indicate that men have a higher percentage (53%) compared to women (47).
