Objective: To demonstrate that maternal anemia is a risk factor for early neonatal sepsis in the Santa Isabel District Hospital level II, El Porvenir in the period 2015-2017. Material and Methods: An analytical, observational, retrospective, case and control study was carried out. The study population consisted of 136 full-term infants; which were divided into 2 groups: with early neonatal sepsis and without it; the odds ratio and the chi square test were calculated. Results: No significant differences were observed in relation to the variables maternal age, gestational age, sex or delivery route between the groups of infants with or without early neonatal sepsis. The frequency of maternal anemia in neonates with early neonatal sepsis was 47%. The frequency of maternal anemia in neonates without early neonatal sepsis was 25%. In the bivariate analysis, maternal anemia is a factor associated with early sepsis in neonates with an odds ratio of 2.7, which was significant. In multivariate analysis, maternal anemia is a factor associated with early neonatal sepsis in neonates. Conclusions: Maternal anemia is a risk factor for early neonatal sepsis in the Santa Isabel District Hospital level II, El Porvenir in the period 2015-2017.
