Objective: To determine the influence of hemoglobin in the prolonged labor in preterm pregnant women Material and methods: Study of cases and controls, the population was made up of the clinical records of Preterm Pregnant Women whose delivery was attended in the obstetrics-gynecology service. After choosing the clinical records that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 44 cases were selected randomly (pregnant women with anemia) and 44 controls (preterm pregnant women with normal hemoglobin), according to the sample calculated by formula. We worked whit the result of peripartum hemoglobin To determine the association between anemia and prolonged labor in preterm pregnant women, the Chi-Square test was used and to determine the level of association, the Odds Ratio test. Results: The average age was 26.5 years (SD ± 5.27) and gestational age 30 weeks (SD ± 2.8). There were 40 prolonged deliveries, 9 controls and 31 cases, the bivariate analysis found statistical significance. The active phase was the most compromised in mild (67%) and moderate (60%) anemia. There was no involvement of the delivery phase. Of the cases, 33% of deliveries ended by caesarean. (p<0.0001 OR=9,27 IC 95%: 3,48 – 24,65) Conclusions: The ratio between prolonged labor versus normal labor is 9.27 times higher in preterm pregnant women with anemia compared to those with normal hemoglobin.
