There are several individual and collective health issues associated with pollution of water sources which carry pathogen microorganisms. The Moche river is no exception because it is a major source for human and agricultural water consumption in La Libertad region. With the aim to evaluate its adequacy for consumption, the evaluation of total and thermotolerant pathogen coliforms during July to December from 2014 in three sampling stations in the lower basin of the Moche river: Cerro Blanco, Puente Moche and La Bocana. Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, Enterobacter, Citrobacter and Serratia, bacteria were found in levels that exceed the maximum standards established in SD Nº 004-2017 MINAM about Environment Quality Standard (ECA) Category 3 for vegetables watering and animals drinking. Therefore, it is concluded that this water must not be used for agricultural purposes because they carry pathogens for human health.
