Objective: To determine if the NOSEP scale has value as a predictor of nosocomial sepsis in infants hospitalized in NICU and intermediate care of the Department of Neonatology of Hospital Belen de Trujillo in the period 2015 - 2017. Material and methods: Retrospective and observational study of diagnostic tests where data of clinical histories of 74 neonates with diagnosis of nosocomial sepsis was obtained. Sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive value were calculated to determine the prognostic value of the NOSEP scale. The chi-square test was applied. Results: It was possible to identify that 22 infants had a positive blood culture, of these, 3 obtained a score> 8 on the NOSEP scale, the sensitivity of this test was 13.6%, the specificity 98.1%, PPV 75% and NPV 73%. The application of the chi-square test showed a value by continuity correction of p = 0.076. Staphylococcus epidermidis was more isolated germ. Conclusions: The NOSEP scale has a poor sensitivity, an excellent specificity, with good results of positive and negative predictive value, however, because of the small sample size, more multicenter studies are recommended.
