Objective: To determine the association between helicobacter pylori infection and the presence of esophagitis in patients treated at the Bethlehem Hospital of Trujillo. Material and Methods: An analytical study, observational, retrospective, cross-sectional type was carried out. The study population consisted of 136 patients who underwent upper endoscopy; who they were divided into 2 groups: with esophagitis without esophagitis. Results: The frequency of helicobacter pylori infection in patients with esophagitis was 21/45 = 46%. The frequency of helicobacter pylori infection in patients without esophagitis was 65/91 = 71%. Helicobacter pylori infection is associated inversely with esophagitis with an odds ratio of 0.35 which was significant (p <0.05). Conclusions: There is an inverse association between Helicobacter pylori infection and the presence of esophagitis in patients treated at the Bethlehem Hospital of Trujillo.
