género no estuvieron asociados a genu valgo.
Objective: To determine if obesity and overweight are factors associated with genu valgo in children from 9 to 12 years of age. Material and Methods: An observational, analytical, cross-sectional study was carried out. The study population consisted of 601 children from 9 to 12 years of age of both sexes with different nutritional states (eutrophic, overweight and obese) who were divided into 2 groups: with genu valgo and without genu valgo. Results: Results: The prevalence of genu valgo was 13.5%. A total of 81 children met the genu valgo criteria and formed the case group and 520 children formed the controls; the bivariate analysis identified the variables body mass index, intermaleolar distance and tibiofemoral angle as significant; age and gender were not associated with genu valgo. Conclusions: There is an association between obesity and overweight with the development of genu valgo in children from 9 to 12 years of age.
