Objective: To determine the impact of quality of life in cataract operated patients using the technique of small incision cataract surgery (SICS). Materials and methods: An observational, longitudinal, analytical, and prospective cohort study was conducted. The sample consisted of 37 cataract operated patients using small- incision cataract surgery, in December 2016 in the ““Luz y Vida““ Eye Clinic in Trujillo, that met the selection criteria. A validated quality of life survey before and 3 months after surgery was applied to these patients. Results: When comparing the averages of the scores in the quality of life survey, in the preoperative we obtained 77.54 and in the postoperative 28.43, showing a high significance (p = 0.001). Likewise, in the grades of quality of life in the preoperative and postoperative, we could observe 0% presented good quality of life and that in the postoperative 100% presented good quality of life, with a p = 0.001, which is highly significant. Also, as for visual acuity an improvement was obtained between the preoperative and postoperative, with p = 0.001, equally highly significant. Conclusions: Cataract-operated patients using small-incision cataract surgery presented a better quality of life; in addition to an improvement in visual acuity.
