Objective: Demonstrate that in cancer patients depression is a factor associated with suicidal ideation Material and Methods: An observational, analytical and cross-sectional study was carried out. A total of 194 patients diagnosed with cancer from the outpatient clinic of the Regional Institute of Neoplastic Diseases were evaluated using the Zung and Beck test scales. The period was during the month of March 2018. Results: No significant differences were observed in relation to the variables type of cancer and time of illness among patients diagnosed with cancer. However, statistical significance was identified in terms of age. The frequency of suicidal ideation in patients with cancer was 9.8% while of these 100 % also presented depression association that was statistically significant (p <0.00) Conclusions: Depression is a factor closely associated with suicidal ideation in patients with cancer.
