In order to evaluate the effect of oral supplementation of soybean oil to low weight piglets on viability and weight gain, 57 piglets were used from 11 litters with a weight lower than 1.5 kg; Which were grouped as lowweight piglets (1.5 to 1.3 kg) and very low-weight piglets (less than 1.2 kg). The piglets were distributed through a completely randomized design in two treatments (piglets that received soybean oil and piglets that did not receive soybean oil during the lactation phase), the oil supply was performed 3 times (birth, 8 And 12 hours later). Weaning weight, daily weight gain and piglet mortality were evaluated. The results were analyzed by analysis of variance and the averages compared by the t test. The oil supply in the piglets did not influence the weight gain and mortality until weaning; Low-weight piglets had a greater daily gain in weight than those of very low weight. These results allowed to conclude that the use of soybean oil to newborn piglets of low and very low weight, does not improve the productive parameters like weaning weight and the daily gain of weight and does not affect the mortality.
