Objective: To determine if obesity is a risk factor for an inadequate response to the treatment of androgenetic alopecia in men. Material and Methods: An analytical, observational, retrospective cohort study was carried out. The study sample consisted of 42 patients with androgenic alopecia exposed to treatment according to established inclusion and exclusion criteria divided into two groups: with or without inadequate response to treatment, the relative risk and chi square test were calculated. Results: No significant differences were observed for the variables age, treatment time, severity or family history among patients with or without obesity. The frequency of inadequate response to the treatment of androgenetic alopecia in obese patients was 22/23 = 96%. The frequency of inadequate response to the treatment of androgenetic alopecia in nonobese patients was 14/19 = 74%. Obesity is a risk factor for inadequate response to the treatment of androgenetic alopecia with a relative risk of 1.29, which was significant (p <0.05). Conclusions: The authors concluded that obesity is a risk factor for an inadequate response to the treatment of androgenetic alopecia in men.
